Emergence

How new orders arise — and who gets to begin them.

Every new order is briefly soft. Before an institution hardens, before a norm becomes “the way things are,” before a technology settles into its final shape, there is a window in which small choices set large patterns. Emergence is the study of that window — and of who gets to act inside it.

This area starts from a simple claim: the age of AI is one long emergent moment. The structures we are drawing now — around access, work, trust, and power — are still plastic. That plasticity is the opportunity and the danger both.
