Navigability is the living-system function of bearing — and it is more than freedom. Every moving field needs continual orientation because movement changes its position, so this function continually relates signal, horizon, bearing, and trajectory to keep life navigable. It becomes urgent precisely where the model succeeds: releasing people from inherited constraints removes the rails that quietly told them where tomorrow was located, and freedom without bearing can become disorientation.

Its governing principle is a boundary:

Support orientation without owning destination.

The model helps a participant know where they are, see beyond their present field, and understand where a course leads — but it never answers what should you do with your life, which would convert navigation into assignment. So the target is not maximum freedom but maximum viable navigability consistent with standing and agency, and the function values both the freedom to redirect and the capacity to commit. The shortest statement: freedom opens the field; bearing keeps freedom from becoming lostness. See Navigability.
