Consideration, not outcome is the most important public clarification about standing: to have standing does not mean you win.
Standing means your legitimate relationship to the matter cannot simply be ignored. It guarantees consideration and legitimate participation — not a preferred result.
A patient has standing, the doctor has standing, the hospital has standing, and other patients may have standing where scarce resources are involved; those standings can genuinely conflict, and then jurisdiction and adjudication determine what happens. Understanding this is what keeps the model from collapsing into universal entitlement — standing is a claim to be counted in the reckoning, not a claim to the reckoning’s outcome. It pairs with the fact that standing can be unequal without worth being unequal: differences must be grounded in actual relationship rather than arbitrary superiority. See Power and Standing.
